This academy reconstructs the expansion of contemporary theory—from Freud’s metapsychology to Lacan, Melanie Klein, Bion, Winnicott, Zupančič, and Kristeva—as a singular, interconnected topography. We rigourously trace the logic of how the core categories of the Unconscious, the Subject, and Desire connect with and transform today’s philosophical and humanistic issues. By intersecting strict exegesis of classical texts with clinical concepts of later psychoanalysis, we present a new conceptual frame that penetrates contemporary theoretical and clinical questions.
The curriculum systematically deepens key concepts based on the reading of original texts. From the Mirror Stage and the Symbolic, the logic of Objet petit a and Desire, to the structure of psychopathology and the ethics of the clinical setting, as well as the subtle variations of Affect and Signification—we convert concepts from mere ‘knowledge’ into usable tools of thought. Furthermore, we extend clinical structures such as Psychosis, Perversion, Anxiety, Abjection, and Mourning into concrete scenes of the contemporary era—Capitalist governmentality, religion and norms, and gender/queer crises—precisely mapping the Grammar of the Unconscious, the Ethics of Desire, and the Politics of Psychoanalysis onto a single chart.
The academy brings together professors and psychoanalysts leading research and education at prestigious universities in Korea to present contemporary psychoanalytic discourse in one place. Each lecture is grounded in rigorous interpretation of original texts while organizing and debating key issues emerging in recent international scholarship—redefinition of Clinical Ethics, new readings of Desire and Affect, Gender/Abjection/Mourning, methodologies of cultural apparatus analysis (Film/Literature), and theoretical developments in Post-Lacanian studies—within the flow of the latest research.
